What to expect
The excursion to Monte San Primo it is a very popular destination thanks to a simple and danger-free route, but above all it offers a panorama that takes your breath away.
This is a very high point frequented by hikers and families by virtue of a simple and danger-free route (there are several climbing routes) and a spectacular panorama that has no equal, in which the view extends 360 degrees dominating both branches of Lake Como below, the Como Prealps, the Alps (often recognizable as Monte Rosa) and the Po Valley.
On extremely clear days you can even see the northern Apennines. For no other reason, some consider it the most panoramic mountain in the entire territory Just like e Lecco!
We present two climbing routes to reach the summit: one shorter with a greater difference in altitude, the other longer with a lower slope (more suitable for children or the less fit).

How to get there
From Colma di Sormano:
- Start your journey in Como, if you are not already there, and head north-east along the SP583 state road towards Bellagio.
- Continue along this scenic road which offers stunning views of Lake Como and passes through picturesque villages along the way such as Nesso and Lezzeno.
- After Lezzeno, you will reach Colma di Sormano, a small hamlet located on the slopes of Monte San Primo. Here you will find a car park where you can leave your car.
- From Colma di Sormano, start your hiking trail towards Monte San Primo. -
- The walk is quite challenging but rewarding, with plenty of opportunities to admire the natural beauty of the area.
From Piano Rancio:
- To reach Piano Rancio, head towards Bellagio along the SP583 from Como, following the signs for Bellagio.
- Continue driving through picturesque villages along the western shore of Lake Como, such as Tremezzo and Lenno.
- When you arrive in Bellagio, follow the signs for Piano Rancio.
- Once you reach Piano Rancio, you will find a car park where you can leave your car and start your excursion towards Monte San Primo. This route also offers exceptional views and an alternative variant to reach the top.
