Voltiano lighthouse in Brunate: unique panorama of Lake Como and the Alps

The Voltiano lighthouse was built in 1927 on Mount Tre Croci (San Maurizio) in Brunate in the province of Como .

It was built in honor of Alessandro Volta , on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the Italian physicist of the same name, to honor his memory and the great work carried out in electricity research, as the famous inventor of the electric battery .

Faro Brunate: some information

The Voltiano lighthouse is 29 meters high and its light is visible up to 35 kilometers away. The structure is made of reinforced concrete and the lantern, made of glass and aluminium, is supported by a steel structure.

Inside the lighthouse there is a spiral staircase of 143 steps that leads to the top, where the lantern and the two circular balconies are located.

From above it is possible to admire views that range from the western arc of the Alpine chain to Monte Rosa.

The lighthouse is still in operation and has enormous symbolic value, in reality it is not used as a reference point for navigation on Lake Como.

The design of the Volta Lighthouse was entrusted to the engineer Gabriele Giussani.

Voltiano lighthouse: cost and opening times

The ticket to visit the Volta Lighthouse costs 2 euros with possible discounts for children or groups.

For those who no longer have the energy to reach the top of the tower, they can still enjoy the landscape from the large balcony in front of the lighthouse.

The lighthouse is opened by Brunate volunteers on weekends and no reservation is required to purchase tickets.

Opening hours are Saturday and Sunday from 10.00 to 19.00 . In case of rain or strong wind it usually remains closed.

Access is allowed for 4 people at a time.

Voltiano Lighthouse: How to get there

If you are wondering how to reach the Voltiano Lighthouse , the least tiring way to reach the lighthouse is by using the car, but it depends on traffic and seasonality due to the many tourists.

Starting from Como, go up Via per Brunate and once you arrive in the town, follow the signs that take you to the foot of the lighthouse steps where you will find paid parking.

We do not recommend the car as the road is really narrow and winding and finding parking is a real challenge, rather it is better to go up with the funicular and then walk a short distance to the lighthouse.

Did you know that you can also get there by E-Bike and take a nice tour in nature? Rent your electric bike in Brunate here or see the experience we have created for you at Monte Boletto.
