Refreshment Genio Alpe Giumello

We are a mountain restaurant, located at 1550 m above sea level on the Alpe di Giumello in the municipality of Casargo (LC) in Alta Valsassina.

The location can be easily reached by car. Starting from Milan, take the SS 36 (the so-called Valassina) in the direction of Sondrio, once you reach the city of Lecco you have two possibilities:

• the first consists in going up immediately towards Valsassina via the SP 72 which leads to Ballabio and continues entering the valley until reaching Taceno, continuing towards Casargo-Narro and then going up to Alpe di Giumello;
• the second consists of continuing on the SS 36 up to Bellano and then exiting, turning left and starting to climb until you reach Taceno, continue towards Casargo-Narro and then go up to Alpe di Giumello.

Once you reach the large square where the RISTORO GENIO is located, the visitor's attention is attracted by a stupendous landscape with the incomparable view of the northern side of the Grigna 2410 m above sea level, of Lake Como and Lake Lugano.

Furthermore, you can easily see Pizzo Tre Signori 2554 m above sea level and on the typical very clear days that characterize the alp, also the Monte Rosa group. Last but not least is Monte Muggio which stands out with its 1799 m above sea level right in front of our restaurant.

A bit of our history

The place which was previously used as a distillery with the "Amaro Monte Muggio" brand, in recent years has been transformed into a Family run restaurant by Cristiano and Emanuela, Owner and Mother respectively.

Since then, with modest prices they have guaranteed the preparation of typical local dishes such as taragna polenta, mountain gnocchi, pizzoccheri, alpine tortiglioni, chestnut raviolacci, penne with porcini mushrooms, delicate crepes, trofie with roe deer ragù, montanara deer, Chianti braised meat, baked pork shank, sautéed porcini mushrooms, rolls tasty, assorted platters of cured meats/cheeses and many other simple but at the same time substantial dishes.

Various and much appreciated by our visitors, they are the desserts made with commitment and love by our Emanuela: tarts for all tastes, apple pie, strudel, village cake, castagnaccio, miascia and many others...

Alpe Giumello yogurt: the real specialty

But our specialty is Yogurt that is prepared using the most traditional method by our expert Cristiano. Our Yogurt can be tasted simply plain or with the addition of berries, honey and chestnuts, a very delicious and sought-after dessert.

Inside our restaurant you can also buy typical alpine products which cheeses (both cow and goat), pizzoccheri, local flour for polenta, honey, jams, marmalades and many other foods sold at retail such as cakes and yoghurt which can be taken away in convenient glass jars.
